Tahniah KuPSiS

Bismillahhirahmanirrahim
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

Apatah lagi bila Vivacious memecah rekod mencatat kedudukan No. 1 PMR di Kedah

Syukur Alhamdulillah

Kejayaan ini, kejayaan kita.
Teruskan berbakti demi sekolah tercinta,

SCHOLARSHIP

Muka surat ini kita berbicara mengenai scholarship. Khas buat adik-adik, juniors atau sesiapa saja. Talk about scholarship, just Google it and in seconds you will get lists of them in front of your eyes. But here, I would love to share about what I’ve been through my post-SPM-phase. Most of the scholarships can be apply after the SPM result had been announced.

BEFORE  SPM RESULT

Holiday? Merdeka? A big NO NO. Sharpen up your English ladies and gentlemen. Believe me, you ‘ll be using it a lot when you are attending interview later on. Mock interview dah pernah buat kan. Lebih kurang mcm tu la.

Kumpul semua sijil , and go scan them all. Why?
Some of the scholarships use 100% online. So, they need the data (prove) that you are exactly the one they’re looking for. All those certificates in softcopy form will be used (upload to them) . And they’ll be judging you based on all the certificates given to them. Save dalam pendrive/laptop/comp dgn selamatnya. Buat siap-siap.  Nanti tak kalut. Nak scan apa? Okay, here goes the list . .

List A
| Your IC | Your parents’ IC | Birth certificate (you and parents) | Your passport picture | Your parents’ salary slip | Your Examination results (Trial SPM/SPM/PAT/Selaras SBP) | your CERTIFICATES (ALL Cocurricular and academic) | Surat perakuan pelajar (testimonil)  | …..and etc

AFTER SPM RESULT

Then? Lepas dah lega dah terima results tu, jgn lupa, the journey is not over yet.

Be alert and updated ! Beli semua jenis surat khabar, News Straits Times, Berita Harian, Metro. Of course JPA and MARA.

Always alert about the announcement. Cari semua scholarship yg di offer. Kalau rasa kena dgn minat utk kos atau bidang yg ditawarkan, jgn segan silu utk apply. Who knows? Maybe it’s your rezeki.

Another thing is. Fotostat semua sijil kokurikulum dan kurikulum. Buat banyak-banyak salinan. Depends on how many scholarship you would want to apply. I’m not sure how much copies you really need. At my time, I’ve used like maybe 7-8 copies. Yes, you really need to do a lot of copies. The more certificate you have, the more the money should be spend to them. Need a little sacrifice here.
Nak fotostat apa? Refer List A di atas (except gambar passport).

And then, pergi jumpa pengetua and mintak sahkan salinan sijil-sijil itu semua . What? Banyaknya? Haa, pandai-pandai la buat muka tebal mintak kat principle. Get ready juniors. Saya jumpa principle KUPSIS to get the sign, get ready to speak in English.
:D .Sekali-sekala practice before the interview, right? Besides, English is easy, just a piece of cake , ya?

Oh ya, jgn risau kalau rumah jauh daripada sekolah. Jika ada keberatan utk berulang-alik ke sekolah. No worries dear, singgah ja mana-mana sekolah menengah berhampiran rumah anda. Jangan risau, pengetua sekolah lain pun valid tandatangan beliau. Asalkan pegawai kerajaan kumpulan A. Semuanya boleh sign salinan sijil-sijil yg banyak tu.

Semua sijil original susun dalam file clear folder. Susun ikut priority. I mean peringkat antarabangsa dulu, then peringkat kebangsaan, negeri and so on.

Jangan lupa sijil lahir, IC Card, Your SPM slip . .and so on.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Some of the scholarships need resumé. So, buat la awal-awal resumé tu :) Have no idea what is it? Do some research about it. Its content. How to do it. etc
(Scholarship like Khazanah need resumé in the application)

Later when you would want to apply any scholar online, mesti, wajibal ghunnah, a must that they ask you to do some essay. About yourself. Your career plan. Answering problem-solve-questions in essay form. Application for MARA , Astro, Khazanah and etc need these essay thingy.

Jangan lupa , nanti alang- alang nak ambil result tu, ambil sekali surat perakuan pelajar (testimonial) . Boleh minta kaunselor sekolah buatkan. Bagitahu cikgu kaunselor tu awal-awal.Kalau bagitahu last minute, kesian cikgu terkejar-kejar nak buatkan.

{Tak semua scholarship memerlukan testimonial ni, yang pasti JAD memerlukannya ^_^}

INTERVIEW

Tips? Jangan gelabah, jangan risau. Bila cakap ja pasal interview, mesti semua orang mula sibuk cari tips daripada senior-senior, kakak, abang yang dah laluinya. *wah, itu semua kenangan*

Make sure you had prepared all the documents needed.
Girls, pakai baju kurung. Simple. At most ada 3 colours ja. Not too fancy please.
      Kasut bertutup.
Guys, pakai baju kemeja, white and plain is preferable. Blazer is extra if you want. And also kasut
       bertutup.
Make sure you take your breakfast. It’s not good to be in hunger and nervous state at the same
time.  It might kill or reduce your confident level.
Datang awal. You are taking your own risk bila datang lewat. Mula la nak nervous ,susah cari
tempat parking , tersesat, macam-macam boleh berlaku bila kita rushing.
      So avoid that !
Be confident ! Smile always. Be positive. Bila datang awal, try to mingle with other candidates. It
will help you reducing your nervousness level.
Bagi salam apabila masuk. Jangan duduk selagi tidak diberi keizinan.
Always alert with the exact date of interview. You don’t want to miss out a thing, right?

# based on my own experience. May vary depends on people and places #

Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA)

Course :  Engineering  [France, German, Korea, Jepun]
Min requirement :  7/8 A- (Jepun, Korea)   |  9A- (France, German)
Duration :  ± 3 hours
Type : Grouping (5-9 people per group)
Mode : Mostly group discussion. Ada sikit individual question
Interviewer  : 2 person each session. Mix race (Can be Malay, Chinese or Indian) . Pegawai kerajaan.(Boleh jadi doctor, pensyarah, engineer, arkitek, etc ) So, jgn buat fakta sendiri time interview pasal bidang yg kita nk apply. Example, bidang engineering,  jgn tipu fakta. Okay? ^_^
Chance of getting : From 10k of applicants, only 300 students will received the scholarship.

So, JPA interview ada 3 sesi. 1 sesi macam buat presentation on a given topic (atas kertas mahjung gitu). All English. Tajuk yang simple. That day, my group dapat tajuk Tun Abdul Razak .Talk about his contribution. Patriotic.  How’s his contribution lead to positive impact in teenager nowadays. Seriously, tajuk ni memang senang. Alhamdulillah.

2nd session, sama ja macam the 1st one. Cuma all in Malay. Sama ja group discussion. Presentation. Kertas mahjung. I got a topic about “Along . Bagaimana mengatasi ceti haram” Alhamdulillah sekali lagi.  Tajuk yang dapat semua senang nak kupas. Boleh explain banyak. Best.

# Tips untuk group discussion session #

**Greet people. Bagi salam for Muslim and good morning/afternoon for non-Muslim.

**Be the first one to speak out. There’s extra point for that. I’ve been there. The interviewer tu pun dah kenal kita bila kita memulakan perbincangan. You see the technique? ^_^

**Okay, waktu ni. You don’t need to worry about JPA policy or etc etc. Just like normal group discussion

**Jangan cakap slow sgt. Orang lain tak dengar.

**Senyum and be positive. Terima pendapat orang lain. Jangan condemn terus. Not good for your health.

**Pandang muka orang bila nak bagi hujah kita. Especially muka interviewer tu. Jangan sampai
interviewer tu tegur. “Tak nampak muka, boleh pandang sini sikit?” Oppss…

**Bekerjasamalah dgn baik with your groupmate. Mingle around dgn diorang waktu rehat tu ke. Jgn
tunjuk muka  sombong, what I meant is girls with girls, boys with boys.

**Don’t forget to say thank you after each session is over. Kalau perlu salam dgn interviewer. Lelaki lelaki, perempuan dgn perempuan.

3rd session is no more group discussion. You guys will sit one by one confront with the interviewer.Tiada lagi duduk dalam bulatan macam tadika. Still, semua groupmate masuk serentak dalam bilik tu at the same time. Cuma takda dah bincang-bincang. Interviewer tu akan tanya soalan general and seorang demi seorang jawab ikut turn. Get it? Waktu ni paling cuak sekali.
As my turn is the first one. So I have to start first. Alhamdullilah, it went quite well. Get ready for unrelated question ya?

As I could remember, Question being asked were :
(Oh ya, kalau interviewer tu cakap Malay, sila jawab dalam bahasa. If he/she asked in English, then please answer in English, okay ?)

--Tell me about yourself
--Why you deserve this scholarship? As I heard, JPA scholarship is worth 1 million ringgit Malaysia per student. Believe
it or not. It’s true. So, make yourself worth it.
--If you are given an opportunity to create something in your own field, what would it be? (Soalan ni seriously best.
Waktu ni korang boleh berimaginasi sikit, but please be realistic)
--Why JPA, why not MARA?
--Okay, ini best. Interviewer tu suruh bagi pendapat tentang social network. Should it be banned or not?
Kami vote for NO ! ^_^
--Do you have basic in foreign language? (Depends on what you’re applying . France . German . Korea .  Japan )
--Since we’re all applying for engineering, so they asked us all in which field that we want to pursue
   (chemical,civil, mechanical, electrical . . etc)
--Soalan cepu emas. Why oversea? Why not local?
--What will you contribute to Malaysia after you finish your study?
--Will you bare with JPA contract? (I got 6 years contract with JPA after I finish my study in oversea)
--Do you think Malaysia can ‘berdiri sama tinggi, duduk sama rendah’ dgn negara-negara maju yg lain?
--- . . . and last but not least. Interviewer tu bagi peluang if nak tanya soalan . Kalau ada something yang terbuku di
minda, spit that out. Tanyalah soalan yg munasabah.

-Ada banyak lagi soalan lain. Can’t recall myself . Sorry-

JAD (Japanese Associate Degree)

Sponsor : Yayasan Pelajaran MARA
Course : Electrical @ Electronic Engineering  / Mechanical Engineering   [ Japan ]
Min requirement :  A+ (Math Mod) | A (Add Math, Phy, Chem, BM, BI) |  A- (PAI/Moral Studies, Sej, Others)
Duration :  ± 3 hours
Mode : Individual  100%
Chance of getting : From thousand of applicants, only like 150 students will succeed
** Bumiputera sahaja**

Interview JAD is quite simple. Ada dua sesi sahaja. Sesi pertama ada exam. Believe me, exam tu senang as easy as ABC. Lebih kurang 20 soalan. 1 jam. Soalan English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physic. That’s all. (Soalan Science Form 1 pun keluar, pasal simbol dalam makmal tu. Yes, it’s not that hard. So chill )

After the exam, ada pegawai tu explain sikit pasal JAD ni.
--   JAD is a twining program (3 + 2 years)
--   First year we will learn 90 % Japanese language (preparation)
--   Second year will learn 50 % Japanese language (diploma)
--  Third year will learn 10 % Japanese language (diploma)
--  Fourth and fifth year will fly to Japan university (12 private universities and 3 public universities) more info if you fail
to maintain your performance, you will be rejected and have to pay back all the money that has been sponsored.
--  Apa yang bestnya JAD ni. You have no bonding after you graduate. How cool is that? Takda contract.
    Kerjalah mana-mana pilihan hati ^_^

Sesi kedua. Individual interview. Ada dua interviewer. The interviewers are both Malay as I noticed. Masuk bilik seorang demi seorang. I’m not sure all English or mix Malay-English because at my turn it was all English, but somehow my friend, Sahkirah said she speaks mix Malay and English. I think its depends on the interviewer itself.

What do they ask?

     Introduce yourself.
What do you know about JAD programme?
What do you know about this courses (engineering)?
How do you see yourself in  5/10 years time?
Can you manage yourself in oversea?
     How do you manage yourself?
What are your strength and your weakness?
How do you overcome your weaknesses?
They did ask you if you have any basic in Japanese language.
     Why you deserve this scholarship?
What will you do if you didn’t manage to get this scholarship?
They did also asked if I had apply any other scholarship?
And . . Okay, this one was a weird question. Of course I do ^_^. Sahkirah, Nik Ismail, Naqiuddin . .
. . . . and etc (ada lagi soalan lain . .I couldn’t remember well)

***  Pegawai JAD yg ushered saya tu ada tanya lepas dah habis interview
“Adik ada apply scholarship lain tak?”

So, I answered “Ada, JPA pun saya apply . .”

Pesan pegawai tu “Adik tak payah accept scholarship lain. Kalau dah dapat dah yg JAD ni terima ja. Kita nak tolong adik-adik”

“ Errr . . . . .” ***

YAYASAN SIME DARBY (YSD)

Programme : Pre-University Scholarship Programme (China)
Course :  I’ve applied for Chemical Engineering  [China]
Fields of Study :

Scholarships will be offered to candidates who are inclined to pursue the following fields of study, subject to university’s admission offer:
  • Business : Economics, Accountancy, Business / Management, Commerce or Finance
  • Engineering: Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or Electrical
Note: Scholarships for medicine degree are not available.
Min requirement :  7As
Duration :  Depends. Mine took about 4 hours or so.
Type : Individually
Interviewer  : Seorang saja. Sime Darby officer (maybe ==”)
Mode : Stage 1 (Ada 2-3 stage untuk Sime Darby interview ni)
Language : All in English
Chance of getting : alamak, lupa la..

STAGE  1

Sesi 1

Datang awal pagi tu, masuk dalam bilik kuarantin. Ada pegawai bertugas dia bagi taklimat sikit. Dalam 30 minit. Then, dia mintak hantar file (sijil-sijil beserta document yang dia minta suruh bawa) , dia nak check ja. Sementara tu, tunggu giliran untuk di interview.

Sampai giliran tu, pegawai tu bawa ke satu bilik. Ambil topic, macam nak buat cabutan bertuah gitu. Random, ikut nasib. I got a topic about “Why do you think study oversea is better than study local ? Explain your statement” Alhamdulillah, topic interview semua dapat yg senang-senang utk dikupas.
Then, I’ve given 20 minutes to prepare and jot down my note. Dalam bilik kuarantin yg lain.
Then masuk ke dalam bilik interview sebenar. Ketuk pintu, bagi salam.
Senyum.

Relax . Jangan cakap benda yang tak berkaitan. It shows that you are nervous. DON’T SHOW IT IF YOU ARE NERVOUS ^_^

Make sure you know a little bit about Sime Darby. They did asked you about that.

@ What do you know about Sime Darby?
@  How do you see yourself in 10 years time?
@  Would you agree with the contract given by Sime Darby? Will you still willing to
      serve to Sime Darby?
@  (….and I noticed the questions are almost the same as JAD interview. So please
refer to JAD interview question ^_^)

My advice is to be honest. Never say you know about things that you actually didn't have any clue about it.
The interviewer did asked me if I knew how long the contract will be. As I don’t know about it, so I’m being honest. And so, he explained that after finished my degree in China. I have to serve for Sime Darby IN CHINA for another 10 YEARS.
I was like @_@ “  . . . . . . .Okay.

Then, wait for the interview result. If you are succeed, you shall continue to the next session. If not, Es tut mir leid (I’m sorry)  The journey here comes to an end. You have to go home. Maybe rezeki kat tempat lain.
Dapat on the spot ke result interview tu?
Yes dear, tunggu dalam 10 minit mcm tu. Then, terus dapat result interview berjaya atau tidak and move on to the next session. Wow, cepat nyaa !

Sesi 2

This is a computer test. You will be ushered to computer lab. Then given a taklimat sikit. Jawab test dalam computer. Online test. Dalam masa 1 jam. Kena jawab semua soalan.
Soalan dia, ish ish ish . . .bukan nak takutkan tapi agak susah sikit. Masa yang diberi amat terhad. Rushing sikit. Soalan dia memerlukan Critical Thinking, Graph reading, Text understanding , Calculating, Subtituting, Text comparing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Done.
I got the offer to the second stage, however I rejected it and didn’t go to the 2nd stage.
Err why . . . .?
because I already got the JPA scholarship offer at that time and already sign the contract. So, again es tut mir leid (Sorry . .) I don’t know how the 2nd stage for Sime Darby interview was conducted. Besides, the 2nd stage is conducted very very later after everyone else already register into their universities for UPU. Yeah, I think dah masuk July baru tahu results utk ke 2nd  stage. Quite late.

FELDA Global Scholarship
this is an experience of a friend of mine

Course :  Engineering , Biotechnology, Accounting, Finance, Information Technology and International Marketing [ United Kingdom (UK) ]
Min requirement :  9 A
Duration :  ± 4 hours
Type : Grouping (4 people per group)
Mode : Mostly group discussion. Ada sikit individual examination
Interviewer  : 2 person
Language : All in English
Chance of getting : From thousand of applicants, only 5 students will be chosen. Count the percentage ^_^
*Terbuka kepada semua. Bukan bumiputera pun boleh apply*

Lebih kurang macam JAD interview, ada 2 sesi . . .

Sesi 1

Ada exam sikit. About English, Mathematics, and Bussiness-like-knowledge.
Tahap kesusahan exam, sangat susah. So, juniors . . lepas habis SPM, jangan dilupakan segala ilmu itu. Masih digunakan lagi.

Sesi 2

You with your groupmate are given 5 topics to be selected. Select one topic and make a discussion about it. A friend of mine said their group had selected a topic about “Can a student balance himself between Cocurriculum and Academic” Then, you are given like 20 minutes to brainstorm. Another 10 minutes to discuss and then present it in front of the interviewer. Oh ya, FELDA ni canggih sikit. Tak guna dah kertas mahjung. Guna white board . So, lebih selesa, jangan risau.

After you have done the presentation, you were asked to sit down in front of them and get ready for the real interview.

They asked the same original question. Tell me about yourself. It’s a first-come-first-serve mode. So be quick. Kalau boleh take this chance to speak out first. After semua candidates dah tell about themselves, then the interviewer tu tanya soalan seorang demi seorang.

According to my friend, the interviewer will just asked you according to you own statement, time kita promote diri kita tell me about yourself tu lah kot.
They also did ask if you received the scholarship offer but not the field that you want, will you still accept the offer?
(eg : kita apply utk biotech, tapi dapat utk engineering. . . get it? ^_^ )
And also other usual question being asked like any other scholarship.

Tips :
Don’t forget to know a little bit about FELDA. Get some knowledge about them. Who knows, you might need it somehow? Just in case.
Don’t ever cakap benda yang contradict dgn fakta yg kita bagi sebelum tu. If you ever said that, the interviewer might be using that to go against you. You don’t want that to happen right?
